📖 The Story: “The Right Bench”

Tony traveled alone to Japan during the Cherry Blossom Festival (Hanami) in early April. The parks were crowded with families laughing under pink trees, but Tony felt lost among all the joy. One afternoon, tired of the noise, he found a quiet square in an old part of Kyoto. He sat on a wooden bench. A moment later, a beautiful woman in a floral dress sat next to him, holding a book. She didn't say a word.

Tony ignored her at first and just watched the falling petals. He was tired of useless small talk. The woman spoke without looking up. “You're the first one who didn't try to talk to me. How strange.” Tony replied quietly. “Maybe I'm just tired of empty words.” She closed her book and introduced herself as Yuki. She came to that square every day since her husband left without explanation two years before.

She pointed to the horizon and said the sunset looked beautiful between the old rooftops. Tony stayed. They watched the pink sky turn gold. When night fell, Yuki stood up. “I'm making Tori Gohan (chicken and rice). There's enough for two.” Tony picked up his backpack and followed her. And as he walked behind her down the old street, he understood that traveling was not about finding new places, but about sitting in the right place to be found.
